Privacy Policy

Redact Guard is built so that your screenshots, and the secrets in them, stay on your Mac. This page explains exactly what data exists, where it lives and who can see it.

The app

Your screenshots never leave your Mac. Text recognition runs on-device with Apple’s Vision framework. Redact Guard does not upload images, text, findings or statistics anywhere.

What is stored on your Mac:

• Originals of intercepted screenshots, in the Journal, so you can undo a redaction. They are kept for the retention period you choose (24 hours by default) and then deleted. Files are readable by your macOS user account only. Screenshots with nothing sensitive are never stored.
• Settings, custom rules and daily counts (how many images were checked and how many secrets were covered), in the app’s preferences. The counts contain no image content and are kept for 90 days.
• Your license key, to confirm your purchase, in your macOS Keychain.

No account, no analytics, no tracking. Redact Guard has no sign-in and does not collect usage data or crash reports.

The app only goes online for two things:

• Activating your license. When you enter your key, Redact Guard sends the key, and nothing else, to Polar once to confirm it. After that the license works offline and is never checked again. Deactivating it on a Mac sends the key once more.
• Update checks. At most once a day, when Redact Guard starts or one of its windows opens, and whenever you choose Check for Updates, it downloads a list of available versions from redactguard.app. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address and the app version to our hosting provider. No system profile or personal data is sent.

Buying a license

Purchases are handled by Polar, our merchant of record. They process your name, email address, payment details and billing country to complete the order, calculate taxes and send your receipt and license key. We receive your name, email address and order details to support you. Polar’s own privacy policy applies to the checkout.

This website

redactguard.app uses no cookies of its own and no analytics. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and protect against abuse. The checkout page is provided by Polar.

Your choices

• Delete every stored original at any time in Settings > Journal & Privacy.
• Remove Redact Guard and its data by quitting the app and deleting it together with ~/Library/Application Support/RedactGuard.
